The Deceptively Wicked Heart

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

– Jeremiah 17:9

The conscience of man is deceitful above all things.

Unsearchable by others, corrupt, abominably wicked.

A naked tree, a sorry shrub, the product of barren ground.

Useless and worthless.

It calls evil good and good evil.

It cries peace to those whom peace does not belong.

It puts false colors upon things.

It is mortally diseased, deadly, desperate.

The condition is terminal.

If the heart is the leader of our delusion.

It will supplant truth and cheat us to our own ruin.

*I was studying Jeremiah 17:9 earlier and thought I would have fun with some points I found in various commentaries. Kind of poetic, I thought.
