Why do non-believers reject the Bible?

While non-Christians may provide many explanations as to why they discard the Bible, the actual reason they don’t believe is that God hasn’t spiritually awakened them.  Scripture is very clear on this.

“Jesus said, ‘I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight. All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.'”

-Matthew 11:25–27

“To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given…This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.”

-Matthew 13:11–15

“And Jesus said to him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this [that Jesus is the Christ] to you, but My Father who is in heaven.'”

-Matthew 16:17

“Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear my word. You are of your father the devil.”

-John 8:43–44

“Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”

-John 8:47

“You do not believe because you are not of My sheep.”

-John 10:26

“For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.”

-Romans 8:7

“But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.”

-1 Corinthians 2:14

“Even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing.”

-2 Corinthians 4:3

“We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error”

-1 John 4:6
