WINTER PROMISE

Like shards of broken glass, stalactites of ice cling to the edge of the roof.
A soft carpet of fluffy white snow hides the ugliness underneath.
A frosty grey sky lingers for only a few hours now,
Soon to be replaced by a thick ebony overcoat.
Naked branches sway like skeletal remains, longing for spring warmth,
Reaching and stretching for everlasting life,
Soon it will return. Blackness will be swallowed up by brilliant light.
So it will be for the children of God,
The shadow of death will eventually cover each of us,
But grace has come to those who believe and life will never end.
